Question Anyone tow with the IDP Street Tune?

So far when I’ve pulled my 5,500lb camper, and 5,000lb boat…I’ve always just used the IDP Towing tune. It works very well, and I have no complaints. When I get home from the weekend, I switch it back over to the IDP Street tune…not really for the extra power (I keep my foot out of it), but for the extra MPG. I get a solid 2mpg better on the highway on my trip to work.

I’m wondering if I can just run the IDP Street tune all the time, instead of switching it back and forth all the time. I know they say you can tow up to 9,000lbs with the Street tune……but I don’t have an EGT gauge, so if there is even the slightest change of tearing something up….I’ll just continue with what I’ve been doing and switch it to the Towing tune any time I tow something (even though I’m towing pretty light).

I am running ARP studs, and EGR/CAT/Muffler delete….if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the info!

I wouldn't tow on the street tune. With the additional power levels and the added weight, stress on components is exponentially increased. You are running studs, but that doesn't mean something else can't break. (pistons...) If you are hell bent on trying it, please install an EGT gauge before you do. EGTs are right up near the top as far as information I consider crucial when towing. Knowing your EGTs and keeping them under a safe level is on par with knowing your engine and transmission temps.
