Spare tire question

I'm going up to 315/75-16, anybody ever put that size on a spare rim and mount it under the truck like the stock one? I know with 4 wheel drive it is very important to keep everything the same size and if I got a flat I don't want to screw up anything by puting a small spare on it. I also thought about puting one of the tires I take off on the spare rim but haven't decided.

Re: Spare tire question

First, will your new spare fit in the space provided under the bed? Second,You can put a smaller tire on the fronts and drive on pavement but do not lock the hubs. I have run smaller spare tires for emergency purposes only just to get me out of the mountains with no problems. I have even ran one on the rear, I kept my speed down and drove straight to a tire shop for repairs. I run BFG Mud 35's and carry 1 35" spare and 1 smaller LT255/85 for backup when off exploring in the mountains. I hope this helps...

Re: Spare tire question

With a 4" exhaust, 35's probably won't fit as a spare. Unless you like melted rubber.

Re: Spare tire question

Just go for the 35 & throw it in the bed.

Re: Spare tire question

I fit my 35" (315 BFG AT) under the bed WITH the 4" exhaust. The overaxle section was custom done (still have it on the side of the house) and gave about an inch of clearance between the tire and exhaust.

All sorts of TDSer KIA's told me this wouldn't work, it did. 40,000 miles including lots of trips through the desert and no problems to the spare, the road tires get hotter than the spare next to the exhaust.

I now have 37's so I have an aux. tank in the spare location, side exit exhaust, and tire in the bed when I travel.

Everyone also said my wheel would get sooty from the side exit, has never happened.

What do I know though.

Perfect excuse for stacks

All there is is 2 tabs under there than unbolt and allow as big as the space between the frame rails

Re: Spare tire question

I had a 315/75/16 under there with a 4" exhaust. Had an inch or two gap and no problems. Even got it to fit without moving the tabs. Just had to air it down to 15psi. I have onboard air so pumping it back up to use it isn't an issue for me.

I have that tire in the stock location. Had to bend the locater tabs to get away from the exaust but it fits and no melted rubber in 40K miles

Re: Spare tire question

Looking at it up in the air (i got the tires tonight) on the lift, not enough room with the hitch. There was only 1 inch between the hitch and the stock spare tire. I don't want to just throw it in the back of the bed.
