Warranty question/ Rebuild cost

Nothing more, nothing less

What is the warranty of the Garrett "PowerMax" GTP-38r?

What is the cost to rebuild a Garrett "PowerMax" GTP-38r?

Re: Warranty question/ Rebuild cost

I don't know what the warrenty is. Rebuild cost is high. If you don't need wheels, the only way to "rebuild" it is to replace the cartridge. IIRC you can get the cartridges for around 675-875 depending on the vendor. Those are old prices, they may be less now you'd have to check with a Garrett dealer to be sure.

Re: Warranty question/ Rebuild cost

That is a fairly standard warranty by OEM turbo mfg's. High performance places such as TN generally have a better warranty. Even Ford was required to send warranty turbos in to Garrett for evaluation. I've had to do the same with CAT, Holset, BW, KKK, Switzcher and Rotomaster. Garrett has had pretty much the same warranty since they were Airesearch.

Re: Warranty question/ Rebuild cost

FWIW, when you swap out the CHRA in a ball bearing turbo (or any turbo for that matter) you have a NEW unit. Housings do not wear out. That is not a rebuild, it's new. You cannot sell a balanced, NEW CHRA without it including the compressor wheel. All you do is bolt your housings back on it and enjoy.

You can have a NEW CHRA for 1000 or less. It's really not cost prohibitive. Especially considering that you just don't actually ever need it anyway. I doing mine in the near future because it's got a bent turbine blade, and I ran it at over 50psi for about 3 months. Now with the GT47 right around the corner awaiting any possible debris, it's just not worth it to chance with the bent blade and all.

Re: Warranty question/ Rebuild cost

MY suggestion is to buy a TN turbo as that is the best turbo in the whole wide world with the best warranty to boot.
ITP is also the best place to buy a TN turbo, Great dealer with the best reputable service.

Pius is a great guy. Whenever I'm in the area now I stop by and he takes a break and has me sit down with his wife, son, and dog for a cup of coffee. Even gave me a Bell Turbo hat that he forgot to give me when he rebuilt my turbo.
