Re: 7.3 high idle mod

For your application I'd just pop for an AIC. You can find them on e-bay for a pretty decent price. The functions that it has will make operating a rollback so much nicer than trying to jimmy something together. What year is your truck?

Personally I think wasting a program on high idle is kind of dumb. Especially when you can have it the programing customized to only idle high at low EOT. But for runing a PTO etc. like the OP is doing the auxilary idle controller (or APCM as described in the above link) IMHO is by far the best option as there are much more functions and settings with it that will work much better than just having a high idle position on a chip.

Re: 7.3 high idle mod

Well its pretty handy at times when your pickup is already warm like jumping off another vehicle or keepin the ac cool in the heat at idle... I personally dont think it is "dumb"..

Out of a 6-po chip I only use 2 95% of the time. Heavy tow and Hot tune. Could get away with just one but I like the heavy tow because I have the fuel pulled way back.

So the high idle is far from useless IMO.

Re: 7.3 high idle mod

When the SD's have a function to raise the idle anyway what's the point? But for this application has much more options.

IMHO all you need is 3 positions. stock, tow, all she's got. With the exception of if you're running spray or propane, water/meth etc then you may need to have a tune for those. The rest of what you need should be able to be built into the programing. Like the high idle on a cold engine. My idle starts around 1100 when I first fire it up cold. Then come down to 703 once the EOT is up to operating temps.

Re: 7.3 high idle mod

The AIC or high idle on a chip? The AIC has a charge protect feature on it so if you are jump starting something, runing a winch or what ever it will raise idle to maintain voltage. Works great!
