What could have caused this hole in my piston??

I had no compression in #7 so I had the motor torn down after I removed it and there is a hole in the side of #7. As a matter of fact, 1,3,and 5 also have a crack in the top of the piston about a half an inch long. 156k on the truck, reg return installed at 80k when I bought it.

Re: What could have caused this hole in my piston??

Is there nothing wrong with the any of the pistons on the other side?

If only those who knew what they were talking about replied, this thread would still be on page one.

Re: What could have caused this hole in my piston??

If that had come out of a HPCR engine, I'd say it looks like the injector stuck open. But in this case, I'm guessing it's from poor atomization (dirty injectors nozzles). But, I could be wrong.

Re: What could have caused this hole in my piston??

I just sent them in with 8 others from another motor I purchased to get a set of 238's for the rebuild but upon inspection, they all looked the same. I don't really know what to look for though. I had purchased a remaned injector to put in before I found out there was no compression and they looked the same also.

Were all your piston squirters in working order? Did you subject the motor to sustained high EGTs?
