Re: Head parts

Just get the stock IH valves or a good aftermarket source. No need for "high" performance valves from some place like Hypermax, the IH ones are plenty good.

910's are not beehives is the major difference, difference design in the springs. You can also get different spring pressures. I'd go with a set of Crower springs, much higher quality than the off-shore pieces.

Re: Head parts

The IH/Ford and Aftermarket SBI valves are all Inconel and will handle all the egt's you can throw at them assuming good guide work and a proper valve job (for heat transfer).

Re: Head parts

As for the part numbers for 910's, seats, retainers and locks.

910's- 910-16
Seats- CCA-4696-16
Retainers- CCA-795-16
Locks- CCA-617-16

I dont have the part number for the beehives. Maybe someone else can post up with some part numbers.

Re: Head parts

Here are the specs of the two.

Beehives
Part Number: CCA-26120-16
Number of Springs Per Valve: Single
Outside Diameter of Outer Spring (in): 1.445 in.
Coil Bind Height (in): 1.230 in.
Damper Spring Included: No
Spring Rate (lbs/in): 370 lbs./in.
Inside Diameter of Outer Spring (in): 1.000 in.
Valve Spring Style: Beehive
Coated: No
Quantity: Sold as a set of 16.
Notes: O.D at top of spring is 1.095 in. and I.D. at top is 0.650 in.

910's
Part Number: CCA-910-16
Number of Springs Per Valve: Single
Outside Diameter of Outer Spring (in): 1.354 in.
Coil Bind Height (in): 1.280 in.
Damper Spring Included: Yes
Spring Rate (lbs/in): 380 lbs./in.
Inside Diameter of Outer Spring (in): 0.940 in.
Valve Spring Style: Standard
Coated: No
Quantity: Sold as a set of 16.

I have the same question. What makes a beehive spring better than a standard spring? Is it better and why? Back to the first question Dieselboy had. "What is the difference" We know that they are not the same style spring but why is one preferred over the other? elaborate..........

Re: Head parts

The beehives are lighter, because the retainer is smaller. This allows more rpms with less spring rate. They also don't have the harmonics of a straight spring either, because of the taper. This should make for a longer lasting spring.
