Shaft play on garrett BB

I just bought a Garrett BB that has never beeen installed but was sitting on a shelf for the last couple of years. I was just curious how much play a new one should have because the one I bought does have some play.

Thanks
Ted

Without oil, it's going to wiggle slightly. However, it shouldn't be enough to make contact with the housing. If it's touching, then you've got a problem.

Just out of curiosity, where did you find one? They seem to be somewhat difficult to get ahold of these days.

I had a buddy who got it from DI a while back and decided to go with a H2 and he kept it and I finnally pulled the trigger. I got a pretty good deal on it.

Normal, fill the bearing cavity with a viscous liquid and it will be fine.

Re: Shaft play on garrett BB

Side to side it will have movement without oil to it. There should be no in & out play that you could tell by hand.
