Exhaust Brake probs?

Heading down the hill today pulled the switch, went to shut it off nothing hit the throttle nothing, floored it nothing but black smoke. pulled over couldn't get it to free up. So finally i pulled the relay under the dash and it was fine. What would cause this bad relay bad switch any ideas. Its the Bd exhaust brake i think its the older model with the big actuator on it.
Thanks Rusty

Re: Exhaust Brake probs?

Check to see if the switch is ok. If it is then the relay is probably bad. They do wear out. Everytime the relay pulls up the contacts you get an arc that will eventually cause the relay to fail. Put another 3 dollar relay in it and drive it until it fails again.
