3.73 to 4.10 Gear Swap

Just found out my F250 (with a towing package), has a 3.73 diff . Has anyone here swapped a 3.73 for a 4.10 rear end? My 12# trailer is really getting the best of my truck. If so, was it expensive to have done? Can you buy and do your own easily? etc ....?

Re: 3.73 to 4.10 Gear Swap

its not bad at allif you have a 2 wheel drive. but if you have a 4x4 you have to a lot more work to pull the axles out. with the rear you can remove the axles without even removing the wheels.

Re: 3.73 to 4.10 Gear Swap

Gear sets are about 400 each for the front and rears. About 30 bucks each for install kits and around 150 for bearing kits if you decide to do bearings. They are easy enough to change, but you do have to set stuff like pinion pre-load, gear pattern, etc. If you don't you'll trash the gears in no time.

All SRW SD's have 3.73 or higher gears. Only way to get 4.10's was in a dually.

Depends on exactly how you coded it when it's ordered. There are ways to get 4.10's in a SRW truck, but you can't just order a F350 pickup and get 'em. To this day you can't just walk in and order a SRW F350 with 4.10's unless it's a gas pot.

12k# trailer shouldn't really give your truck a work out. Especially not with some tow tunes or something along those lines.

Re: 3.73 to 4.10 Gear Swap

Between the new boots and the DP Tuner on the way, I should be good I suppose. Tightening my boots has already helped a great deal but they are definitely still leaking a bit.

Re: 3.73 to 4.10 Gear Swap

What size lift and tires are you running. I have a stock 350 dually with 3.73's and it pulls great even up around 25-30K gross. 4.10's are not fun on the road unloaded. If you are not towing all the time or lifted out the roof I would stick with the 3.73's

2005 Chevy 3500 crew cab dually allison auto.
2007 dodge 3500 QC dually 5.9 cummins, 6-spd.
