6.0 Intercooler and transmission lines

When installing a 6.0 intercooler onto a 2003 7.3L is it possible to just bend the lines out of the way, or does the tranny cooler have to be replaced with a 6.0 cooler? I have heard two different stories, that the lines can be bent on the earlier trucks, but not on the 02-03 trucks. Any help from people with experience is greatly appreciated.

I have a Spearco 6.0 IC and had no problems with the AC plumbing.

Re: 6.0 Intercooler and transmission lines

I found a good deal on the IC and snatched it up pretty quick, I guess I am just trying to do the swap for the least amount of money. It would be nice to have a new trans cooler, but the cheapest new 6.0 tranny cooler is twice what I have in the IC and for that amount of money I would rather go on to some fuel system upgrades.

Re: 6.0 Intercooler and transmission lines

I did manage to bend mine and make it fit, but I only did it as a temporary solution because I was getting a BTS the following month. Not something I would recommend since it's not a pretty job. I'm surprised the lines held together long enough to not spew trans fluid all over the place. Rocky at Rockin-S Performance got a good laugh when he saw my handy work.

Re: 6.0 Intercooler and transmission lines

I will get under there and look around to see how bad it is whenever it stops raining here, but if the overall consensus is that it won't fit, then there may be an IC for sale.

Re: 6.0 Intercooler and transmission lines

You need to replace your tranny cooler with a Pre-Feb 2001 cooler or use a 6.0 tranny cooler. I would not trust bending as a permanent solution.

Re: 6.0 Intercooler and transmission lines

I just cut the 45* fitting off my V10 cooler that I had laying around and welded it back on so it wouldn't interfere. Since I already had a few V10 coolers laying around the mod and install was basically free (or 130 bucks if you count the cost of the cooler). Clears my aftermarket 6.0 with zero issue.

Re: 6.0 Intercooler and transmission lines

do the ealier trucks have this problem?
is it because the tranny lines go into the radiator and the cooler?
hopefully, I don't think my early 99 has them so maybe it is an easier drop in.
