Low Boost, Need Help

Long story short.......Back in december i put the big oil on my truck and was running a tow program for about a week. boost numbers was around 42lbs. Then when i finally receieved my race file the stock transmission crap out on me. Like 3 minutes after uploading the file.

over a 3 month period, i had the transmission built. last friday is when i got it back on the road. The truck seems real laggy and smokes like a freight train. the 38r doesnt come close to cleaning the fuel up. Only Boosts 30-31lbs on the race and takes a while for it get there.

today, i took all the boost tubes off, cleaned and inspected the rubber ends. Everything looks fine. Took the intake wye off where it connects to the compressor housing. the o ring looks good there. intake tubes look good. I didnt notice any up pipe leaks as they would be covered in soot. I put everything back together and still only boosts like 30-31 lbs of boost. loaded the tow file back on and only 30-31 lbs of boost.

not sure where to start looking now? How about the intercooler leaking? Known concerns? how should i diagnose this problem?--- smoke machine?

Re: Low Boost, Need Help

If the turbo is in good shape, and everything else engine-wise checks out, then it's gotta be a boost/exhaust leak somewhere.

Did you happen to check the adjustment on the wastegate actuator?

You can check the actuator rod to see if it's still holding a good tension. If necessary, tighten it by screwing the rod in and see if your boost changes.

i disconnected the boost line going to the wastegate and boost pressure are about 42lbs. i guess i just need to adjust that rod til i see 40lbs sense thats the max recomended boost for that turbo.

what is the 38r waste gate pre-set at when you buy it new...anyone know?

No one can answer that as the mods on every truck are different. 25psi on stock injectors might be the same adjustment as 45psi on huge injectors.

Just adjust it til it works for you

Re: Low Boost, Need Help

Do you still have your original tow program? Did you try putting it back in to see what happens?

If it was 42 with wastegate hooked up before, then the wastegate should not need anything now.
Something else has changed. Or possibly the wastegate was not hooked up before, and got hooked up when the tranny was put back in? Also, possible the old tranny was real loose before making it spool quick, now its a lot tighter, making it spool slower. I would think theres another issue here. Probly something simple.

Re: Low Boost, Need Help

This might be a gas motor thing, but would'nt a really loose converter let the turbo spool quicker vers a tigther one will take longer to get things moving.
I know there have been some people on here who have swaps out converter because somthing like this.
