SES... defueling... MAP???

Hey guys. I have a question about "mechanical boost foolers" and or, a MAP sensor boost fooler type of harness thingy. "Thingy" IS a technical term BTW. From what I have read, they sound a little different from one another. But it also sounds like they are both addressing the same issue. Defueling when too much boost is achieved, and or, setting off the SES light.

I'm just not sure what exactly is going on with my current setup. I am boosting to 34 psi and setting off the SES light now. Even with the SES light on, the boost is still holding 34 psi. So maybe defueling isn't taking place, but the SES light is annoying. Buuuuuuuut. If I get a tad more boost. That would be a bonus.

Any input is always greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jay

Re: SES... defueling... MAP???

There are differences. The release valve type of foolers create a boost leak on the MAP line at a pre-set pressure. A regulator type valve doesn't create a boost leak, but instead regulates the air pressure to the MAP sensor. The regulator type is what you want. Like Dieselboy mentioned, ITP has the unit you're looking for.

Also, your truck is probably defueling slightly. Remember that your chip has a lot to do with how your truck behaves, and will continue to pull hard even if you are setting off an overboost code. The PCM uses the MAP and quite a few other inputs for fueling, so the MAP is only one small portion of the fueling table. Throw on the MAP regulator and you can squeeze a few more ponies out, but don't expect a night and day difference.

Re: SES... defueling... MAP???

I wouldn't go too crazy boosting a d66 ..it is not an h2e...
bean will chime in though and tell ya what is safe and what isn't.

early 99 had one and worked it pretty hard, no problem.
the guy that got it said in needed a rebuild almost immediately, so Leeds me to think it was about to fail when Howard had it.

Early 99 f350 4x4 crew cab, auto. pmt2 pcm
2001 cup holder ,T500, MAX AC ASSIST AC mod, Diy Twin tymar, TS chip, Powerslots & Hawk pads, ford AIC, ..... with big fat want to list.

Re: SES... defueling... MAP???

Thanks for everything fellas. I've been busy the past couple days and haven't been able to call Beans. Although Bean did recommend the D66 for my application. I told him about all of my mods and exactly what I use the truck for. I was told that the D66 would work just as good if not a tad better, due to better air flow (a tad) than the gtp38r and the h2e (stock) I was also concerned with cost. But was told the D66 would treat me right. I do have a surge issue, but Bean told me to change out the current 1.0 exhaust housing to the 1.15 exhaust housing, as he hasn't had a D66 on a 2000 truck with my setup yet. It's mainly been on 99 and earlier models. I am very happy with Beans BTW. They are way cool, treated me right and I look forward to doing more business with them. Not trying to offend anyone with this post, just trying to let everyone know the specifics.

Thanks again and comment away.
