Intercooler questions

I am currently running the stock early intercooler. Will I pick up any power or better my ET with the addition of an aftermarket intercooler.

EGT's are not my issue here. I top out at 1500* at the end of the drag strip and my tow tunes will not go over 1200* when towing in the mountains. I am looking for more power without having my injectors opened up.

Thanks

Re: Intercooler questions

You wont really get any more HP, but you will be able to use more HP with lower EGT's with a better IC. I run a stock 6.0 on my EX and it helped a little bit to lower EGT's.

Do you have an aftermarket turbo? This will facilitate the need of a larger intercooler if the turbo is larger than stock. One, it will sustain cooler ,denser intake charge for longer periods of time, and 2 it will pull more heat out of the intake lowering your EGT's. A good rule is: whatever temperature you can take out of the intake charge, that amount will come out of the exhaust as well.

If you have an H2E that is modded with a wheel larger than the stock 61.5 it may be beneficial to get a larger intercooler with more surface area, you are putting more air into the system, at least help the intake charge by keeping as dense as possible.

Re: Intercooler questions

He'll need a more efficient intercooler not necessarily a larger one with more surface area.
All things being equal a more efficient IC will give better numbers across the board due to a denser air charge.

Re: Intercooler questions

I would not expect any huge gains... In the 10-20hp range... But cooler EGT's and better pressure ratios across the cooler...

With the 6.0 IC I am running now, at 40 psi post IC I am at 45 psi pre IC... I would bet those numbers would even out with a bigger IC (or Better... Read Sperco...)

Re: Intercooler questions

we could trade bumpers...I have a nice vintage early 99,
lighten your truck a lil that would help some

not sure if you would need anything special to use a h2e with a different intercooler, seems like one time when i wanted to order an h2e they wanted to know what type of IC i had..I was kinda thinking about adding a 6.0 just be cause it is cheap, and i am broke....but you do pulling comps, so you might have to step up to a real IC, like a spearco , or Di etc...
