What should I Add

OK, engine is out, heads are off. I will be replacing head gaskets and putting on H11 studs. While the engine is out, I will be removing and reinstalling the oil pan to get rid of a pesky leak and replacing the early 99 intakes with 99.5 intakes. I will probably replace the glow plugs also. What else should I consider doing while the engine is out? This is going to completely strap me for cash, but I want to consider everything that would be worthwhile since the motor is out. Thanks guys.

Re: What should I Add

If you had any water in a cylinder, replace that cylinders connecting rod. As Jacob said, throw some better valve springs in. I chose the Comp Beehive springs!

Did the HG blow, or did you just decide to pull it before you caused some problems?

Everything suggested thus far, except the valves/springs, rod and piston, can be done at a later date with the engine in. Since we don't know your finances, all are throwing out ideas. Cometic head gaskets require you to deck the block and heads for specific flatness and finish specs. Stick with stock replacement gaskets. If you go with beehive springs, you'll need to machine seats - that can be done now or you can go with something like Comp 901 springs at a later date with no machining. Check your valves for wear, if burnt, guides, seats and new valves would be an idea. Consider the mods and consider your cash....
