D66 Turbo Spool

Here are a couple of quick videos of my D66 in action. I think it spools pretty darn fast. How does this compare to those of you with BB turbos?

Re: D66 Turbo Spool

if you're already above the given rpm range that the turbo lights at, most any turbo is going to come on that fast or faster. the tell tale sign is what rpm were you at when you slammed the throttle. looked and sounded good to me.

Re: D66 Turbo Spool

That makes sense to me. I was taveling down the highway when I filmed it.

Here is another quick video I took a little while ago. As you can see, I just came around a corner from a stop and then gunned it.

Re: D66 Turbo Spool

i cant comment as i havent ran a BB, looks pretty quick from the videos. I will be following this post for responses, hybrids going in next month. i planned a D66, but I am still uneasy with the stock center section and boost #'s that are possible with the added fuel. how hard have you beat on it? i know it hasn't been in long. with my 6speed it sees WOT or close several times a day when rowing through the gears, i assumme you have the wastegate adjusted to keep it under 40#. BTW good lookin ride, i passed you a week or so ago, you were headed South on I-205 just before the I-5 interchange

Re: D66 Turbo Spool

Well, I can't let you pass me . Anyway, I have my Turbomaster wastegate set to open exactly at 38 psi, and as you look at the video, it opens immediately at 38 psi. It is a nice piece compared to the stock or the Big Head (I have tried them all). As far as beating on it, I have made numerous WOT passes since I got the tuning back from Jody, but I rarely will see over 20 psi on a regular daily driving basis. I have notice a little boost pattern lately. During normal daily driving acceleration up to 1/2 throttle, boost will go to about 20# and no higher. During 3/4 throttle acceleration, it will go right to 34# and stop. During WOT, it goes right to 38#. Boost is purely a function of throttle position.

Re: D66 Turbo Spool

I will tell you that my old D66 would light from a dead stop in a flash. I love that turbo for just that right there and towing was great at low RPM because it would light do darn easy.

Your vids look better than the other spool up vids that have been posted on here......... That needle moves pretty darn quick, looks good....
