EXHAUST

I have a 99 7.3 with 90,000 miles. I was wondering if i cut the stock cat and muffler off would it help? Should i do that for now until i get my 5'' MBRP which will be about 6-8 months, or just wait?

Re: EXHAUST

The largest restrictions are:

1: muffler
2: cat
3: down pipe

Although on the early 99 the downpipe may rank higher.

Is this a e99 or late99?

What are your reason/s for wanting a 5"? Performance, looks, cool factor, bragging rights, sound?

Re: EXHAUST

Straight piping is fine. I wouldnt get a 5" exhaust though, just stick with a 4" turbo back.

Re: EXHAUST

Why pay $350+ for just half an inch bigger than stock..

At least that was my reasoning behind my 5" not to mention the amazing sound, looks it gets, etc..

You will lose some low end with goin to 5" unless you got the power for it I would either just strait pipe what you got or go with the 4" In my opinion I would go with 4" your gona lose a little low end with 4" to but not much to notice 5" does sound prety cool though. If you chip it you probably won't notice much of the low end loss if you plan on not chipping it I would just strait pipe what you got.

Re: EXHAUST

Will someone explain the reason why you would lose low end with a 5 inch exhaust system?

I ask, b/c i know in a N/A motor you need some sort of backpressure, but in a turbo setup it shouldn't matter. It just wants to get as much air in and out as it can. I would like to hear a good explanation from someone that really know's these motors. Thank you.
