Exclamation stg2 single shot injectors and chip

hey guys i have a e99 7.3 and i have a php 6pos chip on it. couple weeks ago i had some injectors fail on me due to water in the fuel, so i had my local diesel shop out in new injectors and we went with the stg 2 160cc single shot injectors. i was wondering can i run it with my chip in without getting it retuned? i just dont have the money to send it in to get it retuned right now. will it hurt anything?

Yes you can run it and no it won't hurt a thing. You just won't get max performance out of the injectors.

It would be hot and smokey, yes? Thinking of the effects of going from stock to 100% nozzles with even more fuel on tap.

Re: stg2 single shot injectors and chip

Wouldn't hurt a thing on stock tuning if it's an OBS.

If it's a superduty it has splitshot injectors, so the timing will be off.

I definately would not run it without proper tuning, Bill isn't gonna lie to you.

IMO, Bill would not have said it if it was not so. I would ASSume that tunes meant for a significantly smaller stock nozzle and somewhat smaller capacity injector used on injectors with 2x the flow nozzles and 20% more fuel capacity would result is significantly more fuel per time being dumped into the cylinder at any given point and more total fuel as well. Maybe effects on timing and ICP but I sure am no tuner or injector authority. There is likely far more to it if even this part is correct. Maybe one of the tuners could comment. Why not PM Bill and ask him to explain further.

Re: stg2 single shot injectors and chip

I'd think it's pretty simple, timing for a split shot is more advanced than a single shot.

You time a split shot to start the fire at XX.

You time a single shot to dump the fuel at XX.

When a split shot turns on, it stays on through the main shot.

When a single shot turns on, it just dumps the main shot.

So a single shot on split shot tuning will start dumping the main shot way early.

Suppose I might be missin something, but I think that's pretty accurate.

It wasn't Bill, it was me.......

...for the same reasons mentioned above as well as a really touchy accelerator pedal (think on/off switch). They're 100% nozzles, not 80% according to the OP. The actual SOI isn't that much different between the splits and singles, but the amount of fuel injected in a certain amount of pulse width with the larger nozzles is my main concern.

I suggested that he drive it to where it can be parked until we get tunes made for it and that it's possible to do damage.

Re: stg2 single shot injectors and chip

Must get tunes..also a 17* HPOP as you have a 15* and its not going to run them well. Your turbo and esp the trans are not going to last long at all! Sure hope your mech told you this!

We only carry the BEST parts and never compromise just to get a sale.

Dealer for: Full Force, Tymar, BTS, Icon, Pure Performance, TW tunes, just to name a few.
