simple reflash...thoughts?

talking to a tuning shop about my truck and asked how much for a basic tune...heres the responce i got

Quote:
If you just want a reflash and we dont need to put it on the dyno, $100. If you want it on the dyno for before/after pulls, $175. If we need to actually tune for anything, chances are the flash should be sufficient, it goes up from there.
my only mods are 6337 intake, and muffler delete

if i did this, itd be the $100 tune with no dyno pulls

what are your guys thoughts on this? should i go for it? what could i expect to gain?

WTF are you looking to do? Get a Ford reflash or a tune flash?

Re: simple reflash...thoughts?

it would be a flash with sct software, he says projected gains would be anywhere from 85 hp/130 lb-ft to 110hp/200 lb-ft depending on usage....it would be a performance tune, but it would be direct flash instead of using a chip or hand held

I personally dont like a permanent tuning just because if you have a problem you cant turn it back to stock. What do you have done to the truck to get actual 112hp/220tq #'s?

Re: simple reflash...thoughts?

not sure, i only asked him for an estimated number on a truck with the 6337 intake and muffler delete...he said 4" turbo back would help, but isnt necessary for the tune

and if theres ever a problem, i could take it back there and have the stock tune reflashed onto it, the shop isnt far away

Cant see how your going to get that hp range out of stock sticks and stock charger. Most of the time the reason you need to get it back to the stock setting is because something isnt right with the truck and it wont start.

85hp and 130ft-lbs doesnt seem out of reach for a tune on a diesel from what ive been told by everybody else before?

Re: simple reflash...thoughts?

no 85 isnt its the 110hp/200tq that is a little questionable with a pretty much stock factory truck (ie stock exhaust, stick, charger)

i think thats why he gave me a general range and isnt promising 110/200

i would assume with the 4" turbo back and aggressive tune, that the 110 would be plausible, but it would probably run really hot and need an intercooler...(i was talking to him about possibly adding the 4" turbo back)

im just looking for something basic to give it a little more power and a little more mpg...not making a drag truck or anything, but ive never heard of doing direct flashes like this so i thought ide get opinions first

Re: simple reflash...thoughts?

personally i would do a tuner. Just for the piece of mind if it ever has to go to a dealer you have to return to stock and if it didnt start for numerous reasons you could do the same.
