egt sensor/thermocouple placement

whats up guys i have 2000 f350 with 7.3 and plan some upgrades....but i need to keep an eye on boost, egts and trans temp. found some cool gauge kits but not sure where to put the thermocouple sensor for egt gauge. internet research is conflicting with the best place being in the y pipe coming into the turbo on the exhaust side or 6in away from the turbo on the down pipe.

any thoughts or explainations....please educate me
