Are special tunes needed for a 99 with a built transmission?

I have a bone stock 1999 with a built tranmission. I know it has upgraded TQ, billet shafts and clutches. You can really feel when it shifts from 1-2 and 2-3. Because of the upgraded valve body.

Will I need a custom tune with this transmission or will a hydra canned tune work?

The canned hydra tunes will work, just use the ones for the upgraded valve body. It should have a vb on the end.

Re: Are special tunes needed for a 99 with a built transmission?

Avoid a tune that boosts up the line pressure. Most generic tunes do that. That job is done in the valve body of most "built" transmissions. (if correctly built that is). FYI. I still have my BTS transmission that was installed in 2004 about a 180,000 miles ago and it is still as good as the day Brian (BTS) installed it. He told me about transmission tunes and to avoid them with his valve bodies. He knows a little bit about that stuff!
