polish and peen Rods

I have a 03 PMR motor and im about to start a full build and im gonna have to swap some rods and i have a set of Forged rods that will be going it in. Im thinking about sending them to WOP to get them Cryoed and i would like to polish and peen them for a little more added strength. Does anyone know how to polish and peen a set of rods? Is there anyplace that has a write up on how to do it? I understand the polish part but what the hell does peen mean?

Thanks

Wide-Open Performance (I believe), and Carson Stauffer (he did my forged rods) for sure.

02-350. CCSB - Drivetrain by Stauffer, fuel by Swamps, air by Barder, tunes by Gearhead.
04-250. ECSB - In the shop...7.3 swap.

Re: polish and peen Rods

The shot peening will be a big help for big horsepower it reduces the residual stress in the metal so the fatigue life will be extended and they will last longer under stress.

Re: polish and peen Rods

They should come out looking like this...

You need to grind them to size and weight and then use a couple steps of cartridge roll grits to finalize the polish. It's very labor intensive, hence expensive to have a shop do this the right way which includes wet magnafluxing the rods to check for cracks, installing new rod bolts, re-sizing the big end bore for proper bearing crush, balancing the rods, grinding to near net size, shot peen, and final polish.

Can I ask you a question? How close do you balance them all to 1-3 gram for all 8 and also where do you grind to balance. Also do you use ultra-violet magnafluxing?
Thanks
