EGT sensor Question

Hello all,

I have purchased a 96' 7.3 with quite a few miles on it. After checking everything out it looks like the EGT sensor is tapped into the drivers side exhaust manifold. All the install procedures I have read suggest tapping into the down pipe right after the exhaust outlet of the turbo. My question is am I getting an accurate reading with this probe in the exhaust manifold? I can get close to 1200 degrees pretty easy if I lay into it.

Any input would be great!

Thanks,
Have a great day!

Re: EGT sensor Question

down stream of the turbo is where banks mounts the pyrometer, but mounting in the rear of the driver side manifold is perfectly acceptable.
you actually get a better reading of true temps in the manifold than downstream of the turbo.

Re: EGT sensor Question

The only way to get an exact EGT reading would be to put the probe right next to the valve, and that isnt happening. The closer to the actual point of combustion the better, so either manifold.
