Replacing intake plenum boots?

I think my stockers have seen better days. They blow off frequently. I cleaned all surfaces thoroughly prior to reinstalling, but am having issues keeping them on. I'm thinking of picking up some new ones along with maybe some turbo clamps, instead of the stock hose clamps. Ford wants $43.00 each for stock replacements. Any suggestions on something cheaper and or better?

Thanks in advance fellas

Re: Replacing intake plenum boots?

Any truck shop will have stainless T-Bolt clamps for about $7-10 each. Most of them will have good silicone boots too.

Re: Replacing intake plenum boots?

Have you inspected your intake plenums for proper roundness. What I mean is if you have over tightened the clamps it will crush the intake plenum and make it out of round. So your worn oily boots and the out of round plenum might be the problem. These inserts here http://www.dieselorings.com/index.ph...&cat=9&group=6 make it so you can tighten them down to keep them from blowing off and also prevents the plenum from crushing. I am running the boot kit from Dieselsite but i am not using the plenum insert as I just found them today. Dave at Swamps has mentioned welding in some short pieces of exhaust tubing to serve as the same purpose to keep the plenum from crushing.

Re: Replacing intake plenum boots?

Thanks for the input. I do like diy stuff, so I'm going to pick up some t-clamps and some hose from delta rubber (localy) and see how that goes. If I fail (which I hope not) I'll do the kit from dieselsite. I'm liking those inserts though. I didn't check for roundness when I had it apart last. I'd like to do some inserts at the same time.

Thanks again!
Jay

If your boots are shot, I got these from this place Riffraff Diesel: RDP Complete Aramid Boot Kit , they're a strong silicon and just all around the best I've seen. T clamps are 5.00 bucks too..
