Garrett GT42X vs Precision HP71?

I'd love to get a hold of the new GT4294X, but they aren't available yet. I did talk to the guys at Precision, and they said that they have they're own version of the X. They have a billet wheel and cover that they use. I am curious if anybody has tried the Precision version and how it worked. I you already have a 42R. they will upgrade it to the billet wheel and cover for under $900. The price doesn't seem too bad, but I'd like to know more about it first.

You are correct, I know of a local shop that told me they've been using them for almost a year now. He got a good chuckle when I told him they weren't available, and he said he had some on the shelf.

What prices are you guys seeing for the Precision, what is the turbo info. We are a dealer for Precision and can more than likely save you some money. If I can get the info for the turbo you are using for comparison, I will check some pricing for you.

10/98 Early 99, Ex Cab, SB, F350, Swamps tuning, Swamps single shots, Zoodad mod, 4" Turbo back straight pipe, PI converter, TransGo shift kit, Red wasetgate line MIA, DIY BHAF, CCV mod, T/C lock up switch, 260,000+ miles and still goin strong...

I'm running a stock GT4294R now, and was looking to go to the GT4294X, or the Precision equivalent.

Re: Garrett GT42X vs Precision HP71?

Just be careful of the Precision cast turbine housings, we have had 2 blow holes in the casting, on one the divider material eroded/burned away and took out the turbine wheel.
While they warrantied the turbine housing, they would not cover the center section.

Wow, we have been running Precision turbos for about 9 years now on our Outlaw cars and never had a failure.
