early 99 turbo set up in a 96?

Hi
I am putting a h2e in my truck. A friend of mine was wondering if it would help to put my stock set up in his 96 if he finds a intercooler?
Are the e-99s turbo better? Is there anything else he would need?
How much is all my stock stuff been know to go for?

there about the same size and = flow. seem like alot of work for little if any improvment. I could be wrong- might try posting in the OBS Forum if you dont get many answers here.

seen complete 99+ go for anywere from $200 -$500.

pretty sure the e99 turbo is the same flow as the obs, just different in the way it bolts on and the exh housing is different because of the wastegate and SD down pipe.

he could use you spyder tho if he gets an intercooler, it will hook right up the OBS turbo and intake plenums

CCLB with some stuff done .....

Re: early 99 turbo set up in a 96?

another benifit would be he could add a 38r later down the road.

it will bolt right in a late style sd setup.

On the hunt for another truck....

i think the spyder and the intercooler pipes are the only things that will get any money

not sure i'd call it a benifit, since he'd have to change everything again??
the up pipes and pedistal, spyder, and plenum are all different on 99.5+ (arent they?)

Re: early 99 turbo set up in a 96?

The 38r is a pain to cram in an OBS, it requires a very big hammer to the fire wall.(I expected to see the radio knocked onto the front seat) It will not fit on a e99 pedestal either. the e99 turbo pedestal is shorter than the late 99, the 38r and late 99 turbo housing will hit the head if you tried it.

I wouldn't bother changing out the turbo, just use the e99 spider and add an I/C, maybe a 1.0 housing if he wants the awesome experience of removing the OBS turbo.
