BAD ALTERNATOR?? (kinda long)

well my cps took a dump on me last night leaving work (ford recalled grey one) it was late (2am) so i just towed it home cuz i was to tired to deal with it. went out their this morning and put the new one in hooked up jumper cables to it. (my batt's were killed the pervios morning and i just jump-stared it and drove it the 2miles to work, so they didnt get much charge) and let it sit for about 10 minutes. went out and cranked it over and she fired right up. drove it around the block twice and all of a sudden my radio shut off and then litterly 2 seconds latter all my power is gone (instruament cluster, pyro gauge, windows,) everything is dead but my wipers came out out of the blue, the truck is still runnning for about 20 yards then just dies. (coasted it into my driveway luckly) try to start it and nothing no power when i turn the key, but my door dinger is working. so i hook the charger up to and again let it sit for about 10 min. and its all back to normal drive it around the block and down the road a little and same thing happens. would this be a bad alternator??
thanks for spending the time and reading my long post, TRUBBS

Re: BAD ALTERNATOR?? (kinda long)

mine has done something strange like that twice
...driving along and poof like someone turned off the light switch.
I thought oh so this is what the cps is like, tried to just kick it into neutral and start it...notn'.

cycle the key all the way off then start it fired right up.
strange . voltage seems ok according to my aic it will idle up to 14.3 v etc..
alt crossed my mind at one point but seems to be ok...

Re: BAD ALTERNATOR?? (kinda long)

My alternator went the other week and it was similar. My battery light came on on Friday but all seemed ok. Drove all weekend and on Sunday had to get a jump after pumping diesel, then drove a few miles and lights started to dim, then no gauges on the dash, still ran for a few miles and I got to a parking lot.

Mine went when it was about 10 degrees and snowing. I wasn't looking forward to it either but it really doesn't take long to replace.
