Hpop pressure

I checked my hpop pressure this week with snap on modis and was not real happy with results. On 100hp setting it falls to 1500psi at 2800 rpm. I can`t remember duty cycle but I have noticed for last couple of years my truck seems to run out of steam after 2000 rpm. Pressure seems to really fall off after that according to scanner. Would now be a good time for the adrenaline or should I check anything else first? One more thing, even on stock setting pressure was only about 2300psi at same rpm. Any ideas?

Re: Hpop pressure

Log it again, and give us the duty cycles too.

If you can, watch ICP, Duty Cycle, engine RPM, throttle position, and injector pulsewidth.

Re: Hpop pressure

I have some of the information for you. At 3100rpm I had right at 1650psi at 58% duty cycle. It dropped to 1500 for just a second then came back to 1650psi. I did not look at pulse width this time. I have checked it before but I can not remember what it was. I will not have access to the modis for another week or two. Throttle was wide open. I started off at 60 mph in 6th gear and floored it. It spiked to about 2200psi and then dropped steadily.

Re: Hpop pressure

I worked at an automotive repair shop for several years. My cousin owns the shop so I have access to a snap on modis. You can also use AutoEnginuity software for a laptop. I have this too, but the hard drive just went out of my laptop last week. I checked my truck because I got smoked by another cummins 2 weeks ago. I think it`s about time for the adrenaline hpop, and a set of stage 1 injectors from Beans. Anybody run this combo? I have the early 99 so I think it would help but I wanted advice from you guys that have experience on powerstrokes.

Re: Hpop pressure

Personally I think hybrids are the best injector for the buck.

As for the HPOP, it does sound like you are losing pressure. However, the reason I asked for pulsewidth is that tuning changes can also change how much oil is needed.

Here is the scenario... you're HPOP could be weaker than normal, causing the very low ICP that you see. Or, it could be a tuning issue, and can easily be tweaked and bring your ICP pressures up to what you see on other trucks.

On the flip side, you do have an early 99. These came with the 15 degree HPOP, which moves less oil than the 17 degree pumps found on the 99.5-03 PSD's. Sometimes even aftermarket singles can tax the 15 degree pump, so an Adrenaline might not be a bad idea for you.

Also when you upgrade injectors, you'll need new tuning anyway. Personally I would go with hybrids, but that's just me.

Re: Hpop pressure

What made me believe the hpop was weak was the pressure on the stock setting. Which hybrids do you think would be good? I do plan on turbo upgrade but that will be about 2 months down the road. I was looking at the dominator 66. I would like to have around 400 rwhp. So is it possible with adrenaline hpop, dominator 66, and a set of hybrids? I am planning on having Tony Wildman reburn my chip when the time comes. Thank you for your replies.

Re: Hpop pressure

What was the duty cycle on the stock setting? For some reason it's stickin in my head that the 15* trucks didn't ask for the same ICP 17* trucks did. Anybody?

Some 200 or 238CC hybrids with 80% nozzles, with the D66 and an Adrenaline will make 400 all day long. Probably a bit better than that.

Re: Hpop pressure

Oh and I should add that the swap from stock to stage 1's was a nice increase but now I want more and my hpop is pretty weak as well.I think it went down hill wompared to the stock injectors.
