Trans cooler

Hey guys while I'm ripping apart my radiator support on my 1996 f250 7.3 I figured might as well put an upgraded trans cooler on it. I looked at riff raff diesel and xdp. I'm considering the misimoto mmoc-f or the derale 13750. The truck has 88k and I don't want to blow my e40d. The trans tech at the ford dealer I work for said best thing is to keep these trans cold. So any suggestions.

Re: Trans cooler

Honestly not sure if the 6.0 cooler will bolt in an OBS, but if it will, either 6.0 cooler is a great upgrade. The smaller one is still a big improvement, the large one is bigger than the radiator on my Toyota.
Tru-Cool 4739-1 works great as well. Big Red (99.5) has that one. Dieselsite sells it.

So you wouldn't recommend the misimoto or the derale.

Re: Trans cooler

Tru-Cool Max LPD47391, and upgrade to 3/8 lines. E4OD case has a 1/4 NPS(NOT NPT) threads. This is a very common size for Ford and GM cooler fittings (C6, AOD, 4L80, etc.).

Re: Trans cooler

I have the tru-cool and man what a difference. Never see above 165 now in 108 degree heat. Bought it from Oregon Transmission through amazon. Free shipping. Had all the hardware included. Much much cheaper then a 6.0 and as far as I can tell just as good

Re: Trans cooler

I also have the tru cool max. I bought the thermal bypass too. Very satisfied. Trans runs 150-160 towing the 5th wheel even in summer traffic

Re: Trans cooler

You can just get the 4R100 SD lines and bypass. I used the SD V-10 cooler, it comes with mounting brackets that fit the OBS like it was designed to fit it.

THere have been guys who have mounted the 6.0 cooler into the OBS. There are two different coolers, one is a 28 row and the other is, I think, a 32 row cooler.

Re: Trans cooler

True cool max with thermal bypass. I got it for 160 on Amazon its supposed to handle for up to 40k gvw. I replaced my radiator at the same type alone with a rebuilt trans with a lot of upgrades. That's way everything was fresh with no sediments

Re: Trans cooler

I used Aeroquip socketless barbs and -6 AQP hose, works very well.
