HELP Gt 38R ???

I've have my turbo for about 4 yrs. Bought it brand new from dieselsite with the ported housing. Got out of the truck today and heard grinding when the motor was not running. I pulled the intake and spun the wheel, there is some play up and down the wheel spins freely but can hear the grinding sound? Only have mods that are in sig. Nothing crazy. Is it junk? Any thoughts or suggestions on what to do would be a big help!!

Thanks Josh

Ok, so can it be rebuilt? I haven't really heard of people having problems with these turbos that's why I got it, am I just S.O.L.?

Last I knew a centersection for a 38R was damn near as much as a complete turbo. Plus depending on what is causing the grinding, you might need a wheel and a housing possibly adding to that cost.

If I were you I call and talk to a vendor about what can be done - but plan on buying a new turbo.

Re: HELP Gt 38R ???

If you buy a new turbo, price your old one to me. I need some pieces from one of those.

If only those who knew what they were talking about replied, this thread would still be on page one.

Re: HELP Gt 38R ???

Alright thanks HRT, I kinda figured that's what it would come too. Should I up grade to something better? I was planning on lookin into injectors and big oil and a fuel system around spring time. I was lookin to try and get 550-600 hp out of the truck so I figured I would need to upgrade the turbo ne way. Would a modded h2e work good? Or what kind of setup do u suggest? Thanks

If your shooting for 550-600HP then I would at least look at a modded H2E or an S400 based turbo.

My preference is to the S400 based T4 turbos - but that typically requires buying an expensive mount or fabricating one yourself.
