Help Please

Hello All,

New to diesel scene, I have 2001 F350 Crew LWB 4x4. I am short on cash right now so I can only afford a Tymar intake. I am going to cut the stock muffler out and dump it front of the rear wheels. Will these mods be enough later on for a tuner? Or will I have to do a new exhaust system. How restrictive is the stock downpipe on these trucks? Is a 3.5 exhaust big enough? Will I notice any improvement with just these 2 mods? Thanks to all who respond.

Re: Help Please

What you are proposing is a good start and should be good enough to add a tuner OR a good custom chip from one of our site vendors later on. The chip is a better choice than just a tuner.

Gauges are always recommended for any modifications.

Re: Help Please

You could just do the 6637 mod for 50 bucks..its a tymer look a like..but still uses the stock intake tube and napa filter. Go to napa and ask for a 6637 filter..and get two clamps..you can either use a piece of 4 inch exhaust pipe..usually 3 or 4 inches long or you can buy a 45 degree elbow off a sponsor on here..they work the same. I did the 6637 mod a few weeks ago to mine and it sounds a lot better..can hear the turbo a lot better. As far as the exhaust you would be fine with stock straight pipe..but you can upgrade to a 4 inch downpipe and exhaust they will lower your EGTs. If you are plannin on runnin any chip at all..you need gauges..its a must..you dont want to melt your engine or tranny. With an intake..exhaust..and chip you will notice more power and mpg gains if you keep your foot out of it. Dont buy an off the shelf chip or programmer...get a custom tuned one..night and day difference..there are plenty of guys on here that do custom tuned chips..there is no best one..each guy does a pretty good job of tuning...just depend on what you want and what you like the most.
