shim fpr, now leak

Sunday I did this to my 99.5 : http://www.dfuser.com/Install%20Guid...tor%20Shim.pdf only I used a BB. Everything went fine. I put 100 miles over 2.5 days, and no prob. Now when I left for lunch today fuel was poooouring out the lid of the filter (around the oring).

I R&R'ed the filter (same filter) , and leak stopped, I drove 1 mile shut off-no leak, start up 5min later, no leak, drive .5 mile no leak. Shut off, 40 min later, start up, badddd leak, the oring had popped out. Then I installed new filter, drove 1 mile, shut off- no leak.

The o-ring on the old filter looked swelled, and the filter was due replacement anyway.

Did the BB FPR have anything to do with this, am I going to have this prob in another 100 miles or is the leak just coincidence.

new to me truck:02-99 f350 cclb 4x4 6sp bdp stg 1's, TW 6 pos chip, diy tymar everything else stock, that I know of, talk about bassackward upgrading, but I wanted my NEW stg1's in my 'new' truck

I have had mine shimmed for many thousand miles with no problems.

What size BB did you use? I used a 4-40 screw with the head machined down to like .070'' IIRC. What is your fuel pressure?

Mine did the same thing, very annoying. Ended up getting the new filter design that napa sells, comes with a redesigned lid and gasket. Stoped the leak but kinda pricey, I think it was like $50.

Good luck

Re: shim fpr, now leak

bb mod is ONLY for the OBS trucks NOT super duty. You are probably if you pump can handle it at 100psi of fuel psi.I have a few pics in my webshots of my fuel spray disaster that in the end cracked my fuel filter lid cause I kept tightening it down harder and harder to prevent the leak.

I used and allen head bolt in mine. Ive heard of guys using the bb in their SD and having disaster. Only a obs mod. SD need the allen head and you need to check what the fuel pressure actually is.

BB= over 100psi. on SD.You should never shim it until you can check the fuel pressure.Theres a port on the back of the fuel bowl you can screw a gauge in there.

Re: shim fpr, now leak

I will try to get the bb out soon.
I drove 20 miles home, 20 back to work, and no leaks so far.

I would get it out of there before you trash the pump.
