How many...

I've pulled with the factory 10.5" and dana 50 w/ stock hubs up front at least 20 times... mostly around 500 rwhp and now twice well over 600 rwhp.

I have yet to break anything suspension wise. Anybody else doing the same?

I've pretty much been told that once I start going past 500 that axles, shafts, u joints etc explode and have yet to have any of that happen....

Re: How many...

I started out with a Dana 50 and a 10.5.

I swapped the Dana 50 out before I broke it, but the guy that installed it snapped the pinion in less than 2 weeks after he put it in his truck.

I broke both axle shafts and bent the pinion in the 10.5, upgraded to to the Dana 80 and started breaking u-joints and the CV flange on the front of the rear drive shaft - then I upgraded to 1480 joints and all was well.

What kind of tracks are you pulling on? Track conditions and how the sleds are setup can play a big role. Take a nice tight midwest clay track and have the sled hit the grousers at 275 feet and see what happens.

Re: How many...

10.5 rear broken axles and pinion - replaced with Dana 80 rear

Dana 60 Front broken outer axles and hubs - replaced with 35 spline Dana 70 stub shafts and drive plates

Dana 80 rear broken spider gears - replaced with full spool

As hotrod said, it has a lot to do with the track and sled, also it has a lot to do with suspension setup. We have seen trucks with stock driveline go down the track and never break anything, but they are also never hooked to the track. Then you take a truck like ours or Jason's, that are specifically set up for pulling track duty and never see asphalt, and they will find the weakest link, because we specifically set it up to get as much traction as possible.

Re: How many...

all stock stuff here. even w/ a ttb 50 up front w/ a very tight posi and welded rear. also same u joints for the past 2 years. we have alot of very tight tracks. almost everyone around here is red clay, alot of them will get this nice glazed look and thats when they bite like a mo fo. but i will say my truck pulls amazingly smooth and never hops. one last thing i hang 1300lbs on the front.

Re: How many...

So can we gater that the spider gears seem to be the weak link on Dana 80s?

Re: How many...

I've got suspension stops, hitch moved forward and flipped, traction bars, superswamper sts's front 18psi and rear @ 70, weight bracket with 1,000 lbs, dual shocks up front or ratchet strap, what ever's allowed.... don't know how much more "setup" i can get... the truck goes down the track smooth. In addition this truck see's full boosted launches too at the track...

I was not on a tight track just this past time... but I have been on tracks that are as hard as asphalt. Centerville brings back memories.

Re: How many...

Switched to dana 60 in the front. Broke the dana 50 long axle where it necks down, sent all the power to the drivers side stub axle broke it and split it long ways. I had to beat it out of the unit bearing.
Switched the rear to dana 80 as a preventative measure. I only broke a few axles in the 10.5.

What are you doing with the ratchet strap?

What is your wheel speed? What is your track speed? The closer your track speed is to your wheel speed indicates how "hooked up" you are to the track.

I'll have more later....
