I think you would have the best luck if the trucks were manual's, I'm pretty sure the auto's switched for sure, but not sure about the manual.

Is the PCM code visible from the floorboard? I don't remember ever seeing one until I pulled the PCM.

Some can be read with a mirror some have tags.
At one time dptuner website had instuctions on reading the code.

I found that a newer pcm was better for me.better mpg, tranny shifted better, and cruise light works.

Your cruise light worked with the later PCM with the early dash cluster?

Yeah, that's the general consensus. Most folks who swap in a 421/422 PCM into a 401/402 truck get a cruise light.

I know we've been over the wiring, Matt. So I'm going to actually find out with a voltmeter what is going on with the E99 PCMs that are physically wired and even have a PCM pin specifically for the cruise light..........but no cruise light illumination. My guess is that the hardware is there to light it up, but no firmware to turn on the transistor when there is a cruise control activation. The E99 PCMs must just not be able to turn it on....and it was an oversight by the engineers that programmed the PCMs. Obviously since the E99 trucks HAVE a "cruise" light in the cluster, the desire was there.

Re: Early 99 to Late 99 Chip Compatibility??

Thanks guys. So if I could get the guy to put in a later PCM such as a PMT or NVK, he'd be all-around better off? I'll get him to find out the PCM code to see if my chip will work though...

I put in a PMT1 PCM, I still have no cruise light. Have not even checked to see if there is a bulb there though. Of course, mine is so early, it is almost an OBS.

Re: Early 99 to Late 99 Chip Compatibility??

No you can NOT put a later chip into an early 99,,,, as others have said too.
But as also said above, and I did it. Take a later PCM and install it into the early 99 truck, works good.

My early 99 had a PMT one put in with a chip, it ran great, and had NO Codes showing,, (besides the EBV which there was not one installed anymore,,)
Good combination.

*48* Jim T. 2011 F-350 Lariat, CC, LB, SRW. White Platinum Metallic Tricoat. Black leather seats, I probably wont have*PMS,, with this one, at least no major attacks of it!
