Gtp38r turbo new out of box has shaft play

I just bought a brand new gtp38r from advanced diesel. It came in the mail today. I checked it and it has a decent amount of forward-back and side to side shaft play. Now I'm getting mixed answers from all over the internet reguarding if this is normal or if I should send it back. Some people say it's normal and others say it's not and to send it back. I figured I would ask the powerstroke nation on their opinion. Any help would nice before I send it back and waste shipping cost on it if this is normal.

Put a dial indicator on it and tell us how much is TOO MUCH?

The mods are dumb for posting in my Sig line. Next time the mods are gonna ban me and be down to a whopping 10 members. I love PSN!!

38R's do have a bit of shaft play. It is pretty normal. Once oil is pumped to it, some of that will go away.

However, if it feels real wobbly, you may want to send it back.

Can you get it to touch the housing?

I had the same concern when i got mine so i called garret and talked to them they told me it will feel somewhat sloppy sitting there dry but once the oils flowing through it and its spinning it centers itself up, just make sure the wheel doesn't touch the housing and you should fine.

The ball bearings ride on a oil film that takes up some of the clearance.

Agreed, if it doesn't touch the housing at all, I'd run it.
