DIY Head Polish

Gentlemen,

I just picked up a 7.3 engine and I am gonna build it up for a nice 500hp street toy.

I am making this a 2-3 year build, as funds allow.

Here is my plan thus far...

GT42 Turbo
Big oil (terminator or BTS) Not sure who.. BTS is 170mi away :-)
Full Force Diesel Hybrids
WOP cyno'd Factory Forged Rods
Girdle
ARP or H11 Headstuds
Head work of some sort
Water/meth injector w/ IC delete pipe

Please feel to critique my planning.

How for my question...

I have alot of time to work on this engine and I feel I have the basic knowledge and learning ability to polish the head and help flow.

I have been looking on here at possible head options and I think I wanna do WOP pushrods and some sort of valve springs.

Is it possible for me to work on these heads and what are my options? Is this like a port and polish on a SB chevy?

Thanks alot for all the help fellas.

I appreciate the info.

Re: DIY Head Polish

port and polish doesn't seem to have as big of an impact as a sb cheby...
that said i wouldn't mind if mine has a little bit done.
seems like danny had a set that he sold that had a lil mod work done to them .
might shoot him a pm and ask.

also di had a nice looking set of push rods, might have a look at them.

Re: DIY Head Polish

I touched up the ports on the exhaust side mostly of my heads and unshrouded the valves. Do a search and you will get some good pics of areas to touch up.

Re: DIY Head Polish

You can't take as much material out as a SBC.
there is one prominent bump in the intake casting that is particularly beneficial to remove. other than that it's 99.9% polish as I understand.
However, I do recall a few people saying it greatly benefits spooling.
Someday rather soon I hope to quantify "greatly" on this and a few other mods.
