what do i do with my turbo

I have a e99 with 156k. I put glow plugs in the other day and when i checked the turbo I could feel a small amount of play in the compressor wheel and the intercooler tubes had some oil in them. I dont have money for a new turbo so i was going to rebuild and maybe upgrade housing/wheel/ van turbo. I have 6pos chip and 5in down pipe. what do ya think

Rebuild kit from Bean's Diesel is like $125 and it's easy to do. You have to pull the turbo off to rebuild it, but pulling it easy too. That'll fix the in and out play.

What kind of exhaust brake do you have.

I would rebuild it or save for a beans d66 it the only dropin foran early99.
Not sure there are housings etc for the e99.

Re: what do i do with my turbo

First off how much play does it have? A little is normal as long as its not contacting the housing. And as long as you haven't rerouted the ccv, oil in the intercooler tubes is normal.

It will have a small amount of side to side play, but it should have no in and out play, though a little is acceptable in my book as long as it doesn't touch the comp. housing. I've killed a few so I can definately say I've got experience here, lol.

And yes, the oil in your IC tubes is normal, it comes from the CCV vent on the driver's valve cover.

Re: what do i do with my turbo

since you have the sp brake ...
one thing to store in your memory if you ever change turbos is
make sure you keep an ebpv pedestal.
not sure if the beans d66 does .
otherwise you will lose your exhaust break.

not sure how much play your turbo has..
is it still boosting normally , no odd noises etc.
(if it ain't broke don't fix it kinda thing)

another good source is rons turbo service on ebay.

Re: what do i do with my turbo

on Ron's turbo service, that's where I got the parts to rebuild mine when I was killing stockers.

Niether of those will add power, they are used to get rid of turbo surge.

If you have surge, you will need one or the other, not both.
