Snapping modded h2e turbine shafts

I've got rosewood stage two split shot injectors to start with. I bought a moded h2e(66/71/17) with t4 mounting used from an individual. When I first installed it I noticed something was off. The turbine shaft broke. So I bought a new shaft and rebuild kit and rebuilt the turbo. I reinstalled it and drove it for a couple days. Then it started doing the same thing a couple days back. It's broken two 300 dollar turbine shafts now. What's the problem? Im completely lost at this point. Before I buy another shaft does anybody have any ideas why it keeps happening? I know I'm going to have to get another shaft regardless. Thanks yal.

Do you have pictures of the failed turbine shafts?

No. But the first one broke off right at the turbine wheel. The second one I'm not sure of yet because I havent torn into it.

Part of my job where I work is to do root cause investigations on anything from jet turbines to recip turbos. If you can get me detailed pics I can probably tell if it's vibration, overload, or otherwise related.

H2e is a pretty solid turbo that will take some abuse and I can't say I've read about anyone busting shafts. Have you been driving hard or just taking it easy?

Re: Snapping modded h2e turbine shafts

after you replaced all of that you should have had it balanced IMO. Is it contacting the housing anywhere?

This is a turbo rebuild case where it's CRITICAL to have the rotating assembly balanced. Shaft, and both compressor and turbine wheel MUST be ballanced as an assembly.

It'll never last if you don't.

Re: Snapping modded h2e turbine shafts

I'm willing to bet that's probably exactly what I will see, a fracture caused by high frequency vibration leading to failure. I'll keep an eye out for those pics.
