up-pipes fell out!

Yeah thats what happened! I took the manifolds off for a different project and both up-pipes fell out of the collector!!! They are completely smooth, nothing for the crush donut to hang on to!

SO, what can I do that is cheap? weld them together? I just need it to hold until I switch turbos.
Anyone got a set of early 99 up-pipes they want to get rid of?

Thanks
~Jim

Re: up-pipes fell out!

Car Quest #17250. Up pipe donuts. The work in the stock location but only better. I picked up two yesterday for less than $7. Make sure you put high temp anti-seize on everything and every moving part. They work great and leave some meat to tighten up at a later date when they start to leak.

These are actually a chevy exhaust flange gasket.

I have tried other equivalent parts from other stores but this is the only one that works. Thank Bean, not me for this one.

Re: up-pipes fell out!

I would do that but i cant! The top part of the up-pipe, that goes inside of the y-collector is completely smooth! Absolutely nothing for a donut to hold on to. no lip or anything. It is just a straight piece of pipe, no flange on the y-collector end!

Did I explain it well enough??? lol

so what can I do?

Thanks a bunch
~Jim

Re: up-pipes fell out!

There always smooth... there is no lip on the pipe, the doughnut just skweezes the pipe.

Re: up-pipes fell out!

They are??????????

I thought they were kinda like when you have a flare fitting on a piece of pipe and the gasket pushes against the flare to seal and hold it.

Oh well, now I guess that clarifies me as an idiot!

thanks

Re: up-pipes fell out!

We now have some custom blow proof donuts that will work even on worn up pipes. Not cheap but cheaper then bellowed pipes.

Re: up-pipes fell out!

Don't feel bad, mine fell out too, lol. If it just falls out when you take the bottom loose, and it was a compression type seal....it must be working GRRRRRRRREAT
