New Intake

I just installed the AIS from Ford. It was simple. I have an early 99 and the original looked like the only thing worse would be a bucket and a garden hose. What is the opinion on the AIS? My truck is stock with a programmer and only used to tow my 37' toyhauler. Is it worth the $$$? I have an acct at the local Ford dealer so did not pay full retail. Thanks for any opinions.

Re: New Intake

it is the lil fender sleeve on the side for early 99's i believe.
I am not sure that it amounts to more then a beer cozy with no bottom from what i recall seeing.
that is why the early 99's are an eek more.
i don't think it makes much of a diff.

Re: New Intake

The kit I bought has a tube that goes to the core support beside the IC and came with a heat shield for the bat. And a new bat tray to turn it slightly. Should I plug the opening in the fender where the orig intake went??

Re: New Intake

i wouldn't ,
if anything you would want to use it .
for now i wouldn't mess with it, just drive and enjoy some safe air filtering.

the tube that goes to the core support beside the IC sounds like the zoodad mod, a bunch of people do that one , more direct air. but maybe someone more ais informed will chime in .

Re: New Intake

I like my AIS setup. I'm not sure how it will do with the new turbo when I get it in (GT38R) as even with a brand new filter I can suck the filter minder or whatever it's called, just shy of the red "change filter" line with stock injectors and turbo. (It will get close to 30psi though) Filter seems to last a LONG time. Instructions said to use the filter minder not judge it by how it looked and mine has been in for 1.5 years and still hasn't moved the filter minder any farther and I do go off road. Hope yours works out as good for you!

Re: New Intake

thanks, I saw a video on here somewhere that showed the stock rubber tube being collapsed while revving. You might want to check that if you make any more boost.
