4'' exhaust install

how hard is it to install a 4'' exhaust. no one around here will do it for less than 300 and that is my mechanic who took the engine out of my wife's car and put it back for 300. wondering if i could do it effectively. i not a pro mechanic but i have pulled trannys and engines on older cars, do you think i can do it without serious mods to the truck

If you cant install your own exhaust, then you have no business working on anything else....sorry, but true.

Re: 4'' exhaust install

exhaust isnt hard at all, either get a sawzall to cut the old exhaust or you need to remove the tranny crossmember to get the one peice exhaust out. all the new ones Ive done come in peices so you dont have to remove the trans x-member. should take about an hour depending if you sawzall it and what rusted bolts you fight.

Re: 4'' exhaust install

Toughest part is removing the stock downpipe, after that its just putting the pieces together.... and getting the clamp off of the turbo.

Re: 4'' exhaust install

I used an angle grinder. hardest part was getting the v-band off of the back of the turbo.

Re: 4'' exhaust install

to disconnect the down pipe get you a can of pb blaster, and soak it before you start. when you get it loose, open up the clamp how you can, and squirt it down into the clamp, and get it to unseize from the turbo outlet, thats the biggest pain about exhaust install, and yea if you dont care about your stock exhaust(which will neevvver go back on), cut it in sections and throw it in the scrap pile

Re: 4'' exhaust install

It's easy. Took me about two hours starting with tearing out the old exhaust to installing the new exhaust. The longest part was when I got my dad to lay on the creeper and hold up on the new 4" downpipe while I got the band clamp around it and the turbo. No special tools required.
