does size matter...exhaust?

Looking into changing an exhaust on a 7.3 automatic and I have had guys trying to sell me a 5 inch exhaust instead of a 4. I think the 4 is all I need. What say ye?

Re: does size matter...exhaust?

it just depends on what you are wanting to do with ur truck. if you are just wanting to put a few mods on it then 4" will do but if u are wanting to go full out then you will probably want a 5". a 5" will probably have a deeper drone. but i have a 4" on my 7.3 and it sounds great

I had 5" on 2 of my trucks and just recently did 4" because 5" is in the way, whether you run regular exhaust or stacks. 4" is all you need, just ask the 600hp cummins guys.

Re: does size matter...exhaust?

My 4" exhaust doesn't seem to be any problem at 600hp. Although who knows. Maybe I'd pick up a couple hundred horsepower with a 5"?

Over stock- you'll definately see quicker spool, and it'll run better on the upper end... Lower backpressure for the same boost. (assuming you have a newer truck with a wastegate)
Also, a few guys have made over 600 hp on a 3" downpipe (Largest that's easily fit in an OBS) ...

84 Honda Sabre V65 1100: pipes, jet kit and new tires. Faster than I think I'll ever need.

I had 4in on my 02 and I thought it sounded good, I got 5in because nobody around here had it and sounds wise I definatly love the sound so much more. Performance wise I doubt there is a difference.
