is there such thing as to much black smoke?

You can tell in my signature what I have done, I still have the stock pump. And for some reason I get crazy amounts of black smoke. Even when Im just driving down the road at a normal speed I get a light constant haze of smoke. Just doesn't seem like thats normal especially for my mods.. any ideas??

Late model 99 ext cab - Exterior: 05 front end, 08 mirrors, 08 tail gate, 10 inch skyjacker lift on full springs, 22x13.50 moto metal 962's wrapped in 37" Toto mt's.
Engine: swamps 160/100 sticks, turbonetics turbo with a 63/91 comp wheel, gauges, riffraff ocr, riffraff intercooler boots, ts 6 pos chip.

Re: is there such thing as to much black smoke?

You could have a simple boost leak causing it or it might be normal with you tuning. My 7.3 used to haze at cruising speeds with d66 turbo and stock sticks.

It is most likely in the tuning

Doesn't sound normal. Could just be a matter of bad tuning, or a turbo that isn't lighting. Could be a bad injector dumping to much fuel. Like stated above could be a huge boost leak or a bad pre turbo exhaust leak in the uppipes or manifold. S many variables but I would get it taken. Care of. Nobody wants to drive around wasting diesel like that.

Ok well where should I start? How do you check if it's a tune?

Know your SIG says ts 6 position but who's custom tunes do you have on it?

Build or buy a boost leak checker and start there. Also check your up pipes for signs of leaking. Black soot.

PHP Hydra with Gearhead, PHP, and NLTD tunes. AIRAID INTAKE, 4" exhaust.
CTS INSIGHT w/ egt, coolant and boost sensors.
FULL FORCE 160/30'S.
RIFFRAFF Hrx & Frx.
Leveling kit, 285's
Van turbo/ 38r hybrid.

63mm inducer turbo is pretty small for 160/100's imo. even a 38r that is a 66mm inducer has problems clearin up stage 2's. but tunin and boost or drive leaks are a good start

Re: is there such thing as to much black smoke?

Well when I bought my swamps sticks I bought the chip from them and had them tune it for everything done with my truck.

Should I go with a wicked wheel or something. Or a completely different turbo?

Re: is there such thing as to much black smoke?

i doubt you'll find a ww for that turbo, a tuner can make any injector smoke free but you won't make the power like you would if you had proper amounts of air
