How much is too much?

Blowby, that is. I did some tests tonight and here is what i got.

I placed the oil fill cap over the filler neck and it hovered over it and eventually vibrated back toward the back of the engine, but did not "blow" off.

Next, i used a ping pong ball and it rattled back and forth in the filler neck, but did not blow out.

I also used a golf ball and it very slowly spun in place in the filler neck.

What do you guys think? My CCV is vented to atmosphere. The truck has hybrids, H2E and other supporting mods, enough for 103 mph @ 6600 lbs or so in the 1/4. It also has 107k miles, the last 12 or so have been modded heavily.

Does this sound like my blowby is excessive? Truck still runs GREAT and has lots of power. Starts quickly, doesnt smoke.

Thanks in advance.

Re: How much is too much?

That is not a correct procedure for checking blowby.
That said hook your CCV back up and see what it does

Re: How much is too much?

On my stock 160k engine with ccv to atmosphere, I got zero smoke. My new engine smokes a lot.... Everyone says it is normal. Here is some vids.

It made expected power on the dyno and it runs great. Still don't know why the 160k stocker had no visible blowby. Anyways, I am done worrying about it!!!

Mine is similar to yours rpm-inc. I guess i shouldnt worry about it as long as it is running well, making good power, and passing CCT tests.

I was just curious.

No compression numbers, dont have an absolute need for them yet i suppose. Unless it starts running like crap or gets to be low on power and/or long cranks, i'm gonna not worry about it and leave it alone.

That could just be from engine vibration while it is running. I would not worry about it, as mine does something similar.

With my CCV hooked up, if I flip the oil cap over, the cap will slowly slide off the neck towards the back of the engine compartment. I also see a mist coming out of the neck and the CCV if I disconnect it. I had a compression check done around the same time and the numbers were very good.

Re: How much is too much?

Ok i plugged the ccv vent tube and used the oil cap on the filler neck and it hovered there for a second or two and slid backwards off of it. The engine is on a fairly steep angle leaning backwards. Not sure if this had anything to do with it??
