I tried to build my own engine back in 09. I thought i knew ENOUGH, turns out i knew a "good bit", but lacked attention to detail in areas i didnt knew there was something important i was missing. I could have dropped all my parts off at a shop that does it for a living and been well ahead in time and money if i let them do it right the first time. But on the other hand it was a good learning experience, but very expensive. Let someone else do it.
