Fixing to install Gauges

Hey guys my issapro guages will be here Wednesday. I ordered the Ev2 boost and pyro. I know it goes pre turbo is it easier to put the probe in the manifold or the up pipe? Also would that make any difference on the pyro reading? Thanks Hunter

Thanks for the info. This is my first pyro install and just worried about messing something up. Just out of curiosity what kind of metal is the up pipe made out of?

Re: Fixing to install Gauges

Up pipe is just stainless.

Mainfold is cast iron.

Drill, tap and install.

Do not worry about shavings, do not worry about grease on the bit, worry about all the shavings falling in your face and wear safety glasses.

Thanks for the info! I would feel better putting it in the up pipe in case something went wrong i could weld the hole shut. And redo it would that work ok?

Put it in the mainfold... Drill tap and install.

Have you ever tapped anything?

Put it in your up pipe, weld it up in a few months or put it in the mainfold and be done.

Its your choice, do it once, or twice.

What do you mean twice? What i meant was if their was a chance i messed up drilling or tapping the hole in the up pipe i could weld it closed, and could drill a new hole and tap it. No my buddy is in college to be a machinist i was gonna get him or my grandpaw to help.

Re: Fixing to install Gauges

Drill and tapping the up pipe is a dumb idea, its super thin... 4 threads vs 20 threads...

Re: Fixing to install Gauges

drilling and tapping the exhaust manifold is about the easiest thing i have ever drilled and tapped. the cast iron is super soft.

I think what Joe might be getting at is that if you put it in your up-pipe then the bung could blow out or something along those lines do to the thin tubing.
