Computer code compatibility?

Hey guys, so I'm wondering a couple things here to do with chip programming and ecu codes. I have a 99 7.3 (not sure early or late, I do have the vin code if that helps, truck is 5hrs away at the moment, do not know the ecu code) and I picked up a dp f5 with tunes for a 02 7.3 for a sweet deal hoping it would cross over, if not it will be easy to resell or retune if need be. So I'm wondering anyone might have an idea on what computer code I have, and what codes might work with other code tunes? Thanks guys

Ken

Re: Computer code compatibility?

It will not just drop in and work. 99-2001 will more or less work fine, auto to auto and such. There was a major change in 2002-2003 and the chip will not work without a reburn.

Re: Computer code compatibility?

If I could pull it there wouldn't be a problem, the issue is that I'm not near the truck for 2 weeks.

Ok, that's what I was starting to think the more I looked into it... Thanks

Re: Computer code compatibility?

if it's an e99 with oem pcm thats another story. If it is upgrade to a pmt and have Jody put new tunes in the f5. Mine runs & tows really well.

Oh no there are lots of different codes...sheets of them. Fewer families.
My original pcm was an xle
...my chip is written for an Nvk
For example. Ill leave it to the tuners to explain more.

Re: Computer code compatibility?

oooh gotcha. does anyone know if any damage can occur running a chip with a wrong tune, or if it just wont work/run etc.
