Another Surge/Turbo Question

Well, I pulled the turbo, took it apart, and found that the fins of my compressor are pretty eaten up... kinda scary really...
Also, I don't know the exact name, but the area behind the compressor wheel, the "inside" of the compressor, was scarred up and there's some cracks and trash from the casting process. They're not "deep" cracks, so no worry about leaks, but anyway, I took the roughness off of it all and polished it out... hope that's OK...

My real question is,
Do I need to worry? It all looks good now. Are the cracks common? Like I said, they're not big or deep, just kinda look like spider veins or something.
Could the dull wheel be the cause of my surge? Thanks for all the help guys!!!!

Re: Another Surge/Turbo Question

if the fins are touching the housing sounds like it is time for a rebuild and a WW before it ruins your housing or upgrade to 38r....

How is the shaft play on the turbo? Does sound like you might need to rebuild the turbo if the wheel is hitting the housing, thats definitly to much shaft play...

No! There's no contact to the housing... should have taken pics!! I'll find a pic of one and show you. There's virtually NO shaft play!

Alex.... You and the shaft play.... You'll go blind!!

Re: Another Surge/Turbo Question

The cracks are normal nothing to worry about. If there is no shaft play just throw the wheel on and go.

Pic no workie.

If the wheel isn't on it there will be some play.

If only those who knew what they were talking about replied, this thread would still be on page one.

Re: Another Surge/Turbo Question

Area "H". I polished all the rough spots and there's some cracks in there.
