Need good advice on radiator

Radiator went bad allowing water into the transmission.
I ordered a performance radiator 2171.

But think it would be good to just use a radiator that doesn't cool the transmission also, and get an air cooled transmission cooler.

How do I prevent this from happening on a budget.

Do you think 400-500 miles on water in the tranny means it will need a complete overhaul?

Thanks,

Re: Need good advice on radiator

Through a commercial account and a Ford dealership I paid two hundred and sixty nine dollars for a brand new Ford radiator. Diesel site sells it true cool 40,000 GVW trans cooler for like a hundred thirty five bucks. make sure you completely clean your intercooler while the radiator is out. My entire intercooler was 100 percent blocked off causing my overheating issue. I spent two hours with the special water attachment getting it clean. I can load this thing down 21 thousand pounds strong running grade and high speed in my temp gauge doesn't budge.

Re: Need good advice on radiator

For $200 it wasn't the 31 row I bet. Probably the smaller 26 row 6.0 cooler. And Tru Cool is a far better cooler. It is a stand alne 40,000 gvw cooler.......plate style as well.

A 6.0 cooler is a Tru Cool cooler. The difference is the aftermarket one is only half the size of the OE one. So if a 13 row Tru Cool is rated at 40,000 GVW a 26 row 6.0 cooler should be rated at 80,000 GVW.

If only those who knew what they were talking about replied, this thread would still be on page one.

Re: Need good advice on radiator

the 31 is larger the 26 is more efficient..so they are a wash. a v10 is a good cheaper direct Bolt on as is the tru cool...
the reason they added the tranny cooler to the radiator is for trucks that idle a lot. do a lot of backing and slow traffic use etc...my early 99 does not have it.

Early 99 f350 4x4 crew cab, auto. pmt2 pcm
2001 cup holder ,T500, MAX AC ASSIST AC mod, Diy Twin tymar, TS chip, Powerslots & Hawk pads, ford AIC, ..... with big fat want to list.
