1st diesel

just bought my first diesel, 2000 f250 crew cab, 136k miles, 4x4, 6spd. the truck is going to be my wifes daily driver but also be used to pull a trailer sometimes. i don't want it to be a race truck but i don't want to crawl up hills with a trailer on, also since it will be a daily driver i would like to improve fuel economy as much as possible. this is a whole new world to me, everything i own is still carburated except my 89 jeep comanchee. my diesel knowledge is limited to what i learned working in parts and sevice for 7 years, so all i know is the dealerships views on things. i would appreciate any suggestions.

Re: 1st diesel

Welcome to the Nation... good to see another guy from Indiana.

I dont know much about the 6 spds but 1st thing is gauges, intake and exhaust. Then a custom tuned chip. I love my chip from DP Tuner but there are many great other tuners on here.

Gauges are the most important part of a diesel truck so that you know when you are over working it.

Intake is easy to do and can build one for the cost of a 6637 Napa filter and 4 inches of 4" pipe

Exhaust.... 1st of muffler delete then later a 4" turbo back if you pull a lot.

I'm sure others will chime in.

1999.5 F-250 7.3l 4x4 6 spd Ported Heads, Head studs, valve springs, DI Push Rods, DI RR, 38R, Walbro fuel pump, 238cc Injectors from Nate @ Unlimited Diesel and Tuned by Matt @ Gearhead Automotive

Re: 1st diesel

some things are very benificial power gains or not.
a chip will gain hp but actually also gain mpg.
the superduty airbox sucks, the tabs often are broken which can lead to a dusted and dead engine.so also well worth the fix.

there are many other decent upgrades as well...
my favorite is my chip then my remote starter, a little harder in a hand shaker but nice...lots of other mods and addons depending on what you tow
how fast you want to stop and so forth.

Early 99 f350 4x4 crew cab, auto. pmt2 pcm
2001 cup holder ,T500, MAX AC ASSIST AC mod, Diy Twin tymar, TS chip, Powerslots & Hawk pads, ford AIC, ..... with big fat want to list.
