'08 Rear Diff Cover bolts

My True Trac will be here in the next day or so. I'm trying to get the parts together for the swap out of the diff and replace the cover.

In all the posts I've read, the '08 aluminum cover is thicker than my steel cover. I measure my stock bolts as 3/4" long. The last 1/8" of the bolt isn't threaded at all - just a point. In posts I've read about this swap, you need to use 1 1/4" bolts. Can you get away with 1" bolts? or is the aluminum cover really 1/2" thick? I'm having some trouble locating the bolts locally in the 1 1/4". They have 1" and 1 1/2".

Worst case, I'll get the factory bolts from the dealer.

Any experiences/suggestions?

Re: '08 Rear Diff Cover bolts

1 1/4 wasn't an option at Home Depot. They only had 1 and 1 1/2 in the bins in 5/16-18 SS.

Lowes was the same.

Re: '08 Rear Diff Cover bolts

You need 5/16 18 x 1-1/4. Ace hardware had them in stock when I needed them. You could also get Stainless or chrome. It is a nice upgrade, not sure it really does anything, but looks good.

Ace has saved the day in the past....I'll give them a try.

I really don't want to order them online. The dealer would have them overnight if I go that route. Don't worry, I get excellent pricing at the dealer.

Re: '08 Rear Diff Cover bolts

Ok, just got back from the hardware store and I also made a stop to the dealer.

It was a Truvalue (used to be a Coast-to-Coast). They had tons of stainless hardware. They had more than enough fasteners for my needs. I know where I'm looking for fasteners first next time.

I got my bearings and cups from the dealer for around $55 each set and the cover for under $42.
